Ans.  Theplay is based on the theme that there is a lot of difference between social ethics and business ethics.  Businessmen are usually corrupt.  They want to earn money by fair or foul means.  Joe Keller is a moderm businessman.  The only purpose of his life is to eam money.  He puts his family interests above everything else.  He supplied defective cylinder heads to the Air Force.  He was aware that he was endangering human lives by doing so.  He knew that the Air Force needed cylinder heads urgently.  If he did not meet their demand, they would cancel the order.  Thus his business would suffer.  So he gave instructions to his business partner, Steve Deever, to repair thecracks and supply them.  He assured his partner on telephone that he would take full responsibility for the supply of goods.  The planes crashed because of these defectivecylinders.  Joe and Steve were arrested and tried.  Joe put all the blame on Steve.  He denied having given any instructions to his partner on telephone.  Steve was sent to jail and Joe was released.  Joe became more prosperous by extending his business.  He felt neither any social responsibility nor any feeling for his partner.  Steve had no written proof in his favor.  So the court released Joe Keller and sentenced Steve to a long term of imprisonment.  Later Joe built up his business and became richer.  When Joe's elder son Larry leamt about his father's guilt in the cylinder scandal, he committed
